From 28th August 2025, changes to US customs regulations mean that all parcels entering the USA may be subject to import duties and taxes.

To give customers flexibility, we offer both DDP (Delivery Duties Paid) and DDU (Delivery Duties Unpaid) shipping options at checkout. Please read the following carefully, as responsibilities differ depending on the service selected.


Delivery Duties Paid (DDP)

When a DDP service is selected, all applicable duties and taxes are calculated and paid at checkout.

This means:

  • No additional fees on delivery

  • No customs payment requests from the courier

  • Faster and smoother customs clearance

Available DDP services:

  • Royal Mail Tracked – DDP

  • UPS Express – DDP

  • DHL Express – DDP

We strongly recommend DDP services for the smoothest delivery experience.


Delivery Duties Unpaid (DDU)

When a DDU service is selected, duties, taxes, and any customs-related fees are not included in the checkout price.

This means:

  • Import duties and taxes are the sole responsibility of the recipient

  • The courier (UPS or DHL) will contact you directly to request payment

  • Payment must be made before delivery can be completed

Available DDU services:

  • UPS Express – DDU

  • DHL Express – DDU

While DDU options may appear cheaper at checkout, additional charges will apply.


⚠️ Important: Non-Payment, Refused Deliveries & Returns (DDU)

If a DDU shipment is:

  • Not paid for when requested by the courier

  • Refused by the recipient

  • Returned to sender due to non-payment of import duties or taxes

Then:

  • The shipment will be returned to us at the courier’s discretion

  • Return shipping fees, re-import duties, taxes, and carrier charges will be incurred

  • These costs are not refundable and will be deducted from any refund issued

  • Refunds (if applicable) can only be processed after the goods have been received back and all carrier charges have been confirmed

We are unable to intervene in customs or duty payment requests on behalf of the recipient for DDU shipments.


Refunds & Chargebacks

  • Refunds are not automatic for refused or returned DDU shipments

  • Any refund issued will be less all shipping, return, customs, and carrier fees incurred

  • Chargebacks raised for non-payment of customs duties, refused deliveries, or failure to accept shipment will be disputed using carrier records and delivery attempts

UK Standard Delivery Couriers

UK orders are shipped via Royal Mail or DPD UK, depending on parcel size, weight, and destination.

All available courier options for your order will be shown at checkout.
If a courier option is not displayed, this means your order is not eligible for that service due to size or weight restrictions.


DPD UK Delivery

  • DPD deliveries typically take 1–2 working days from dispatch

  • Delivery times are estimates only and are not guaranteed

  • Deliveries do not take place on Saturdays, Sundays, or Bank Holidays

  • Non-mainland UK and certain postcodes may take longer

If your postcode is not serviced by a particular DPD service, we will contact you to arrange an alternative courier or offer a refund.

We are not responsible for courier delays outside of our control.


Royal Mail UK Delivery

We offer the following Royal Mail services:

  • Royal Mail Large Letter (Gift Vouchers & Greetings Cards only)

  • Royal Mail 24

  • Royal Mail 48

Delivery timeframes begin after production has been completed.

  • Royal Mail 24 aims to deliver on the next working day after dispatch

  • Royal Mail 48 aims to deliver within two working days after dispatch

These delivery times are targets only and are not guaranteed by Royal Mail.

The Blackened Teeth is not liable for deliveries that fall outside of these estimated timeframes, and Royal Mail does not offer compensation for delays against these service targets.


Royal Mail Special Delivery (Guaranteed)

Royal Mail Special Delivery is a guaranteed service for delivery on a specific day by a specific time.

This service is not offered as standard, but may be arranged for time-sensitive orders at an additional cost.

European Union (EU)

  • Both DDP (Delivered Duties Paid) and DDU (Duties Unpaid) options are available

Customers must ensure they select the correct shipping method at checkout.
We cannot change a DDU shipment to DDP after an order has been placed.

⚠️ EU Free Shipping (orders over €125) is NOT Delivered Duties Paid.

Customs, Import Taxes & Unsuccessful Deliveries

Customs & Import Taxes

For all international orders (including Ireland where applicable):

  • Buyers are responsible for any customs fees, duties, or import taxes

  • Couriers will contact the recipient directly using the details provided at checkout

  • We are not responsible for delays caused by customs clearance or unpaid fees


Unsuccessful Delivery / Returned Shipments

If a delivery is unsuccessful due to:

  • Import duties or taxes not being paid

  • Delivery refusal by the recipient

  • Multiple failed delivery attempts

Then:

  • The customer remains responsible for original shipping costs

  • Any customs fees, return shipping, re-import charges, and carrier fees incurred will be deducted from any refund

  • Refunds (if applicable) are processed only after goods are returned and all charges are confirmed

  • If return costs exceed the order value, the shipment may be abandoned and no refund will be issued


EU Delivered Duties Paid (DDP)

Delivered Duties Paid services mean:

  • All duties and taxes are settled in advance

  • No additional charges on delivery

  • Faster customs clearance

If a non-DDP service is selected, duties must be paid directly to the courier upon arrival.
Failure to do so will result in return or refusal as outlined above.


Non-UK Mainland Delivery

Delivery to non-UK mainland postcodes may incur additional charges.

If applicable, we will contact you before dispatch to:

  • Request payment of the additional charge, or

  • Offer an alternative courier, or

  • Provide a full refund

Shipping Policy

How long does it take to make my order?

Our products are handmade in the UK - therefore they have a 'Production Time' prior to their 'Shipping Time'. Each product listing shows how long it takes to be made by our Artisans in our workshop. You'll find this information below the 'Add to Cart' button on each listing in the form of a timeline with icons.

Please not that 'working days' do not include weekends or Bank Holidays; our workshop is closed on these days.

Please note that during Sales or new product releases our Artisans work extremely hard to meet demand, but there may be a slight delay in your order if volumes are high.

Couriers we use for Uk shipments

COURIERS for UK Standard Delivery are Royal Mail & DHL UK:

DHL UK Delivery:Β Our DHL Delivery service endeavours to deliver within 1-2 working days (dependent on the recipients postcode, non-mainland UK can take longer). DHL advise theyΒ endeavourΒ to deliver within 1-2 working days (from dispatch of order) howeverΒ this isΒ not guaranteed by DHL, this is their timeframe that they work hard to deliver to. Should issues beyond their control incur in their courier network they will deliver as soon as possible.

DHL delivery does not take place on aΒ Saturday, Sunday or Public/Bank Holidays.Β Not all postcodes are serviced with the DHL Next Day Delivery option, should your postcode fall in to this category we will contact you to offer an alternative shipping method.

ROYAL MAIL UK Delivery:Β We offer 3 Royal Mail services; Royal Mail Large Letter (for Gift Vouchers and Greetings Cards only), Royal Mail 24 and Royal Mail 48. The shipping time follows on from the production time.

Royal Mail 24 ServiceΒ will endeavour to deliver on theΒ next working day after the order has been dispatchedΒ (working days do NOT include weekends or Bank Holidays) however this CANNOT be guaranteed by Royal Mail. This is their estimated delivery timeframe only.Β 

Royal Mail 48 ServiceΒ will endeavour to deliver withinΒ 2 working daysΒ from dispatch however this CANNOT be guaranteed by Royal Mail. This is their estimated delivery timeframe only.Β 

The Blackened Teeth is not liable should Royal Mail not deliver within these timeframes and Royal Mail will not provide any means of compensation for delivery outside of this timeframe, due to the timeframe being only a guide that they aim to work to.Β 

Royal Mail Guaranteed Delivery/Special DeliveryΒ is aΒ guaranteed serviceΒ that your parcel will arrive on a certain day by a certain time as chosen by us/you. We do not offer this shipping option as standard however for time-urgent orders we can upgrade your shipping to this service for an extra fee. Should you need to use this service please email us with the title 'Special Delivery' to: contact@theblackenedteeth.comΒ 

The checkout page will present you with all courier options that are available for your order, if a particular courier option is not present it means that your order is too large or heavy to be sent by a certain courier (i.e. Royal Mail has a weight limit and the order will be forced to DHL UK).Β

International Customs & Import Taxes

Buyers are responsible for any customs fees and import taxes that may apply when the parcel is received into their country. Information regarding payable fees will be sent directly by the courier to you; using the contact information provided on your order with us. We are not responsible for delays due to the customs process.Β 

In the case of aΒ delivery beingΒ unsuccessfulΒ (due to fees being unpaid by customer, or the courier attempting several deliveries to no avail) the customer is responsible for the original shipping charges, any import fees that are incurred, and the cost of returning the package to us at The Blackened Teeth.Β The fee amountsΒ will be deducted from your order refund. If the return fee exceeds the amount of the order plus shipping costs, the package will be abandoned and youΒ will not be able to be refunded for the order.Β

What does 'Duties Paid' mean?Β 

At Checkout you will now see two options for delivery into the EU.Β DHL Economy SelectΒ orΒ DHL Economy Select Delivered Duties Paid.Β If you select the delivered duties paid option this means that the shipping price you see at checkout will be theΒ only chargeyou will have - The Blackened Teeth will settle all fees prior to your parcel arriving; you'll encounter no additional charges.

If you select the DHL Economy Select option andΒ do not wish to pay for the 'Duties Paid' service, DHL will email you for collection of the applicable fees upon arrival in to your country. Please be sure to check you're selecting the correct shipping method; we can't change your order to a 'Duties Paid' service if you have selected a normal method (that will incur fees upon arrival).Β 
Our EU Free Shipping option (for orders €125.00 and over) isΒ NOTΒ delivered duties paid.

free uk delivery over Β£100

All UK orders that have a spend of Β£100 (and over) will qualify for Free Delivery to a UK address.

The courier we use for these qualifying orders is DHL. DHL aim to deliver within 1-2 working days, from the date that you receive your dispatch email from us. Please remember that your order will have a 'production time' and the 'shipping time' follows on from this.

Should your UK address not be serviced by DHL we will use Royal Mail.

We withhold the right to remove our free shipping offer at any time and this requires no prior notice. If required, we may cancel orders or write to advise that an additional shipping fee is required to be billed to you if the shipping for your order exceeds the amount paid for (applicable for remote or not highly serviced destinations).

Wrong delivery address inputted

PackagesΒ returned to us or lost in transit due to incorrect/incomplete addresses provided at checkout: If you notice the shipping address provided at check-out was incorrect, please reply to your order confirmation email or email us directly with your Order # and updated address within 4 hours ofΒ placing your order. We will be able to amend the address as per your request, however once your order has been shipped no adjustments can take place.

Reshipping of orders due to incorrect addresses or failed attempts by the courier at the correct address but no one present will incur another shipping fee.

Parcels returned to us due to non-delivery

If the parcel is undeliverable to the shipping address provided for any reason, your local post officeΒ usually holds your parcel for pick-up for a certain number of days. They will typically leave a note which may give you the option to reschedule delivery online or pickup at your convenience within the referenced timeframe. If the recipient of the parcel fails to pick up the parcel during this window, the post office will return it back to us. We provide tracking updates to your email or SMS updates when opted in. PleaseΒ check the tracking links and/or notifications for updates on the whereabouts of your order. Please be advised that shipping costs are non-refundable should your package return back to us. Reshipping of the parcel again will incur another shipping fee.

Please include your Order Number (found on your confirmation email) and provide photos of any problem being experienced.

How is the shipping cost calculated?

The shipping cost is calculated based on the following: Weight of the items, size of the items, shipping destination and order value.

Our website is linked to live courier rates so shipping rates will, at times, fluctuate to reflect live rates with our shipping partners.

When will I get tracking information?

Your order will have a 'production time' as stated in the product listing timeline below 'Add to Cart'.

Once your order has been made and a courier label generated, you will receive a dispatch email. The dispatch email will have a tracking link inserted.

Tracking will go live when the courier has scanned the parcel into their network. Please note that it can take up to 2 business days for the tracking to update on occassion.

How do I return an item?

Items can be returned providing they are in their original condition and with original packaging,Β within 28 days of receiving your order. Your return will not be accepted if it arrives at our workshop later than this.Β Customers are liable for any return shipping costs.Β Please include your original packing note or a printed copy of your order confirmation email in with the parcel.Β 

Returned items will beΒ checkedΒ upon their return and must be in a resalable condition in order for the refund or exchange to be applied. For this reason we ask that you take great care when packaging the items for return, should the items be damaged in transit back to us we will not be able to raise a refund or exchange the items. Should you not have the original packaging that the order was sent in please use other appropriate protective packaging. We strongly advise that you ship returning parcels using a tracked courier service.Β 

I would like to exchange an item for something else

Should you wish to return an item and exchange for a different item the returning item must be received back to us within 14 days of receipt. The returned item must be in original condition in order for re-sale. If packaging is removed or tampered with we will not be able to exchange. Should the original item cost be greater than the new (requested) item cost you will be liable to pay the difference. The buyer is responsible for paying for the returning of the goods to The Blackened Teeth. The buyer is advised to send the return package using a tracked/signed for courier service; The Blackened Teeth are not liable for the returned parcel should it be lost or damaged in transit (package all items up well). The buyer will be sent an invoice for the shipping of the new item; the shipment will be sent upon receipt of payment.Β 

We will aim to process your return within 5 working days of receipt. You will receive an e-mail to confirm your return has been processed and your exchange shipped. The length of time for the new product to be dispatched will depend on what item it is, and how long this takes for us to hand-make.Β 

Buyers are responsible for return shipping costs. If the item is not returned in its original condition, the buyer is responsible for any loss in value.Β 

My order has been damaged in transit

If any of your goods are received damaged, please accept our sincere apologies. We take great care and time to package our products. We will raise a claim with the courier for this negligence and will require photographs of the damage to the shipping box and damaged goods to be sent to us to raise the courier claim. Please email contact@theblackenedteeth.com with your order number and the photographs and we will be happy to assist. ο»Ώ

I have received a faulty item

If you receive a faulty item, please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience it may cause. Please inform us within 14 days from receipt of the faulty item of its unsuitability, attaching photographs to the email.

We will refund or exchange any faulty items within 30 days from the date you receive it.Β 

I have received an incorrect item

If the item you received is not what you originally ordered, please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience. Please email us, providing photographs of the goods and of the packing slip and we will then advise on how to proceed. Please inform us within 14 days from receipt of the incorrect item that the item is not correct. We will refund or exchange any incorrect items within 30 days from the date you receive it. We will provide you with a pre-paid postage return label to send back the incorrect goods.Β 

Can I return an item to you that I bought from a TBT stockist

Only products purchased through our website (www.theblackenedteeth.com) are eligible for a return directly to us.
